The event shows the battle between the locals and the invaders. Church of Blessed Virgin of Purification is situated in the centre of Smokvica with a large church tower and neo-Renaissance architecture. Velika and Mala Pijaca and lodge surround the church and for centuries were the centre of the main happenings and celebrations. Numerous churches placed around Smokvica were built so that the „Heavenly protectors“ would protect the village. The most important is the St. Michael church from 1372, situated at the hill offering a beautiful view.
Remains of villa rustic and nobleman castle are the proof that Smokvica was always attractive for its fertile soil and beautiful nature. The nobleman built their estates and retreats here. Korcula poet Kanavelic had his summer house in one of Smokvica fields where he found poetic inspiration in the scents and sounds of nature.
Torete are unique stone houses on the island. They are specific for being built in circular shape by lining flagstones. These can be found in the vineyards and were used for tools keeping.
Although Smokvica is the most famous for vineyards and vine however, other Mediterranean crops are also cultivated. The most famous are almonds and especially the type with a very thin shell also known as Smokvica Princes. In spring time Smokvica is embellished by almond blossom.
The most famous legends in Smokvica are those of fairies, beautiful girls which in the evening dance along meadows and bathe in the bays. There are many stories about fairies but the most famous is the one about Vilin dol in which passing by peasant found fairy sleeping under pine trees.
Istruga bay in vicinity of Brna is the most famous by healing mud and a cave to which a beautiful path leads. This pra-historical cave used to be a habitat and shelter of shepherds. It is specific for its position on the high cliff.
